Ideas

I had numerous ideas for my final major project. One of my first ideas was to create a music video for the song called "Don't watch me cry" by Jorja Smith. This is definitely one of the most beautiful songs that I have ever head the pleasure of listening to and I wanted to show this passion through a music video. However I decided against this because I feel like I lack the knowledge to make a music video just yet - I have never created a music video before so I don't feel confident doing this just yet, however I am going to definitely do one in the future when I gain more knowledge of this type of media product.

The idea that I felt very confident about was creating a radio show podcast. In one of our previous projects we had to create a radio drama - this was something I really enjoyed and a project in which I learnt a lot about audio editing. I gained a good deal of knowledge on how to use Adobe audition to edit and manipulate audio, furthermore I also learnt how to use the Zoom H4n pro recorder and a Rode NT1-A microphone. Learning all these skills made me want to create a radio show podcast where I could use these skills that I have learnt and develop them even further. I am also a big fan of radio and podcasts such as Radio 1 so I wanted to share this passion in my FMP. Furthermore I wanted to make my radio show podcast entertain as that is after all why people listen to radio and podcasts. Another idea that I came up with was to also incorporate my passion for current affairs and debates. I want to have a big question on my radio show podcast where I get the opinions of my target audience and even get a guest on the show to debate the question - this will also achieve another one of my aims which is to inform - as after all its so important that people are informed and develop their own opinion on big questions. As I am a teenager I wanted my target audience to be teens and young adults - I am going to ensure that I carry out extensive research to gather a really specific target audience.

Here is my project proposal presentation (Bunker, 2019) and project action plan timetable:

Overall this went really well. I created a well presented power point and ensured that my presentation was interactive through asking my audience questions and recording their feedback in my research. I do think however I should have practised more on what I was going to say - as at times I struggled with this meaning the overall  professionalism of my pitch wasn't as good as it could have been. I also thought that I relied too much on my script and didn't make enough eye contact with my audience witch perhaps made them feel disconnected - this will come with practice as I find public speaking quite challenging.

In terms of feedback I got it was really helpful. One of the bits of feedback from my college peers was that they don't like the presenters on a radio show to be over enthusiastic and "in your face'' - they ex Radio 1 breakfast DJ, Nick Grimshaw as an example.

Another interesting piece of feedback that I got was exploring the idea, of making my project into more of a podcast instead of a radio show, and focusing on a single topic as podcasts can be more ''niche'', and there is a wider "scope" of opinions can be explored. I did give this idea a lot of thorough consideration however I feel like I will be able to show more of my skills in audio by creating a full radio show instead of a podcast that focuses on one topic.

I also got a good piece of research advice, to look into how many younger people are still listening to radio, because as the internet is extremely popular among the younger generation,  I need to look into how many people are listening to podcasts online compared to radio. As I already know that radio is becoming less popular among the younger generation I am going to ensure that my show is a radio show podcast which means it still has the great benefits of being a radio show like playing music, having discussions and phone-ins etc but is pre-recorded like a podcast and distributed online like a podcast which means that it will be on a medium that is very popular among the younger generation.

  1. Your Idea is very thoroughly thought out and you have done a lot of research into your target audience and how you can make it most appealing to them. I suggest that you should make the paperwork that you have scanned into your blog bigger as it is fuzzy and hard to read. You have also explained your previous ideas to a high level and explained how you have incorporated them into your current idea.

    1. Thank you very much for the feedback. If you click on the paperwork it does actually increase in size and is not fuzzy.

  2. You have clearly thought through each idea in detail and you have clearly established what went well and what could have been improved in your pitch.
